Women in STEM
University of Dundee
Inspiring and empowering women in STEM
What are we?
We are a society for all women in STEM at the University of Dundee. We aim to create a supportive community that will celebrate and empower female students. Our events are a mix of fun vibrant socials and opportunities to grow professionally so that our members have the chance to meet other great women and thrive in their chosen field.
Our goals
We aim to make a difference and create a comfortable environment to allow our society to flourish in all fields of STEM. Find out more about our goals below, or get in contact with us.
Creation and Promotion of Opportunities
Helping You Get Ahead
We aim to assist Women in STEM in taking advantage of more opportunities by promoting existing opportunities to ensure a higher level of awareness about upcoming events. Further, we plan to work towards creating new opportunities to aid more women in achieving experience and building their network.
Support
Celebrating Each Other's Success
With this ambition we aim to celebrate each other's success, and support each other in education as well as in taking advantage of opportunities. We strive to make a difference in our women in STEM society, and we hope to provide as much support as possible.
Maintenance of an empowering environment
Creating an Inclusive Space
We feel a need for an inclusive environment where all women in STEM feel comfortable and accepted. Our ideal society is somewhere that people feel comfortable asking for help and sharing their success, as well as taking the steps to expand their comfort zone and take advantage of opportunities.
History behind the society
The University of Dundee Women in STEM Society was founded in 2017 with the intention of creating an on-campus community for Women in STEM, and bringing awareness about development opportunities as well as reaching out to younger generations. It worked alongside the university as well as external organisations including Equate Scotland and Sanctuary Graduates to ensure our members gain access to the best resources for their professional success.
We can't be thankful enough to the founders of the society - Stephanie N. Anani, Heather Johnston, Kamania A.E Akil, Caitlin Gaughan, Megan Kelly, Melinda Baptista, Catriona Liggett and Joana Carneiro.
We hope to continue your legacy to the same excellence.
